View Full Version : Southwest Weekend Twisty Run - March 1st/2nd

As they say, life's pretty straight without twisties.

I just spent a weekend around Margaret River and came back via Augusta, Nannup and Birdgetown. Pretty much any time I wasn't in a winery tasting wine, I was on the road wishing I was on my fighter experiencing all kinds of knee down shennanigans, which in reality, means me riding like a squid and wobbling round corners, but going very fast in between.

So, I'm thinking that for all those who can't make AFR (and those that can), what about a weekend run instead ?
We would stay somewhere cheap like the hotel in Pemberton.

Rough idea for the run....(open to idea's)

Leave early Saturday morning.
Cruise down to Bridgetown obeying (mostly) the speed limit.
Blast from Bridgetown to Nannup, then to pemberton.
Check into hotel.
Maybe go for a post lunch ride somewhere like Northcliff for a beer and back (which is a bitchin road).

Sunday, head across to Augusta for brekkie, up the Caves Road past Margaret River, through Wildwood Road to the main highway, then cruise back to Perth stopping for lunch somewhere suitable.

Interested ?

Unfortunately that weekend is going to have to be the one as a few of us going to AFR have to pack up our bikes and ship them.

Before then, I'm away oversea's.

Damn, thats the weekend of party shenanigans at my house after the wedding. I doubt the bike would be back on the road by then anyway. Just came back from a trip down there, bloody excellent riding. Have an awesome time guys.

A wee bump for those interested.

There's some early morning rain around there for the next few days so we'll keep an eye on the weather and replan if needed.

Munter, wanna meet us at Byford or summat ? We can always go the boring way through Mandurah and meet you on the way through. Might be kinder on some arses that way but hella boring and patrolled by the popo.

Soooo, we're booked in at the Manjimup hotel.
All the other towns I tried were all booked out with music festivals or push bike races and stuff.
$60 a night for an ensuite room upstairs at the pub (no air con but).
They say there's places out the back we can park bikes and there's a restaraunt.

Munter, you've been around that area a bit, do you have any idea's to make the run south from Byford a little more interesting than just going down the highway ?
There'll be a stack of traffic and probably a few coppers on the main road.
Maybe turn off at North Dandalup, through Dwellingup, across towards williams and cut back to Collie or something ?
I'll have a map we can look at anyway.

You also need to nominate a time for us to meet at the servo in Byford.
Kookaburra is thinking of coming with us for the day then heading back to perth.
You gunna bring Witchie, Kooka ?

Yes mate, I'll get us the fun way to Dwelly then maybe a bit of brekky and go from there.
8;30 Caltex Byford is good for us would like to get an early start.
And as I was reminded today it's gonna be double demerits, so we'll have to be a bit careful on the highways.......Until that gets boring [^]

I'm off line for the rest of the weekend.
If anyone wants to join for a day run, Byford is the place to be at 8.30am tomorrow.
My mobile number is on page one of this thread I think.
