Me, Shano & Deano & maybe a couple of others are gunna scoot up for a look on Sundy, we're planning to leave around 9.30 & go up the back way - either Ringwood, Warrandyte, Christmas Hills, Yarra Glen, Dixons Creek, Mt. Slide to Kinglake or Yarra Glen, Tarrawarra, Chum Creek, Toolangi to Kinglake then Kinglake thru Flowerdale/Strath Creek to Broady.
Probly hang around for a few hrs & head back via a similar route early arvo & maybe stop at the St Andrews Pub on the way back for a couple.
Anyone else keen?

2 nights before actually Ivan, I like to give people PLENTY of notice. ;)
Good day out, we got up there just as they started the lunch break so had plenty of time to check out the bikes & have a wander around before the action got happening again. We were 'sposed to park in the designated bikepark area but instead we just rode into the pits & stuck the bikes at the end of the garages, inadvertantly creating a mini STREETFIGHTER show. [8D]
The meeting itself was a lot smaller that last year as far as competitor numbers but the Period 5 (Forgotten Era) grid was pretty much full & they're the bikes I wanted to see so it was all good.
Robbie Phillis (Mr Superbike to you) was dominating the F.E. class again, doing 1m 1s laps on his GSX 11, Karl Corpe & Peter Guest on their Z1Rs were dicing for 2nd/3rd & Rex Wolfenden 4th on his immaculate T Rex CB 1100 R (Deano had a hard on for that bike & actually said he'd like one for a roadbike [:0])
The day was another fact finding/research opportunity for me really, I got lots of pics of the P5 bikes, talked to a few operators & came away with all the missing info I needed for my P5 GS/GSX racer so it'll be full steam ahead over the Xmas break & hopefully it'll be finished for the Barry Sheene Memorial meeting at Eastern Creek in March.
I was really keen to do a shakedown run on the 'Fighter too so I could check out the handling after all the chassis & suspension mods so we went the scenic route up the back way thru Christmas Hills, etc.
Well, my first half decent twistys ride on the 'Fighter was bit of a dissapointment [V] Couldn't go any quicker than about 5 tenths round corners, front suspension is too firm & bordering on harsh, rear suspension is ROCK HARD due to the modified linkage ratio & the tyre has to do the work of the shocker & absorb the bumps - far from ideal - any quicker than 110 or so through a 70 signposted bend resulted in a pace crippling, sphincter puckering weave from the rear end (TL 1000 S owners will know the feeling well) not to mention that my arse cheeks felt like Mike Tyson had used them as a punching bag. :( Any mid turn bumps on or off the gas got the bike skipping off line as well so I just had to pull my head in & cruise, still, the ride served its purpose & I now know exactly what work I 've gotta do to make the thing handle.
I promise nextime I'll give more notice, meanwhile, here are some pics so yous know what you missed out on. ;)

Mr Superbike's Mick Hone M/Cs sponsored GSX 1100, I've been doing a lot of research on P5 component eligibility & as far as I can tell, this is the ONLY 100% legal bike in the whole field !

This bike belongs to Roger Gunn, a mate of Deanos, as you can see he has a matching pair. They're GS 1000 S's & only making 115 RWHP, my sources ;) tell me that some of the front running bikes are getting 150+ [:0] Roger still managed to finish well inside the top 10 though, proving that HP isn't everything.

Peter Guest's immaculate Z1R, Guesty has been a frontrunner in various historic classes for years now & is lapping within a second or 2 of Phillis' times.

Karl Corpe's Z1R, note the front discs - these are made here in Vic by Manta Engineering & are a copy of the RG 500 MK VI items, the only legal floaters allowed in P5 - they're 6000 alloy carriers with SG cast iron rotors & they can be yours for a mere $850..... each [:0]

Stu Loly's Vic Wreckers sponsored GSX 11, I raced against Stu & this bike in Formula 2 at the Interclubs & he's FUCKING FAST, until Phillis came along he had the P5 lap record at the Island with a 1m 45s

This bike gives me a hard on, the combination of spoked wheels, no front guard & the original (long) seat & ducktail makes it look tough as fuck I reckon.
My first big bore roadbike was a blue & white GS 1000 S (Wes Cooley replica) & I've had a thing for them ever since (I still have 2 of 'em in bits in the garage - one day ! ;))

There were a couple of quite standard bikes competing in Forgotten Era too, although I'd be keeping this in the loungeroom & polishing it, the Jaffa Zs were the second best colour scheme after the Emerald green ones.

Matching pair of T Rex CB1100Rs, these are making big HP, engines built by Rex Wolfenden, builder of the 1200+ cc 150 HP Post Classic Honda 750/4 racebikes that have DOMINATED their class for 10 years.

The Aussie built Drysdale 750cc V8 on display in the pits, this thing had Moto GP potential but ran out of $$$. :(

You happy now Latheboy? It's like you were actually there.
I didn't bother taking any pics of the racing, my old digital Box Brownie doesn't like anything that's moving.
Who's up for next year?....... Now THAT'S plenty of notice.

The only non period concession allowable in P5 is the use of wider wheels or rims, up to 3.5" Front & 4.5" Rear, most people (including me) use the earlier '88 - '90 GSXR 750 wheels but the wire spokies are lighter & look waaay [8D]er

I did my 18 mths worth of enforced 250 riding learners on one of these (they were the quickest 250 available at the time) & once you have lived with a kick start 2 smoker, you'll always want to ride one again. Yes, I have 4 of these too [:I]

This is budget racing at it cheapest, these bikes are almost stock standard with the road gear removed, chuck a set of sticky tyres on & you're racing for less than 2 grand.

Ask any of our many UK or ex UK members about RD 250/350 LCs, they are a cult bike over there & geezers are still building specials & racebikes out of them. Check out the NRP Pastmasters LC featured in the last couple of editions of the Bible.

Edit; I just did a count & it's actually 18 bikes [:0] might hafta have a cull eh?
