If anyone ever wants to go ride around the track, Mallala Motorsport Park hold their own ride days once a month. It only costs $120 for the day. Ambulace on standby, air fences, and pick up veihcle all included. There are 3 groups, for riders. Slow, Medium and Fast. You choose which one you want to ride in when you sign in and pay up at the start of the day. Each group has 20 minute sessions. So you only have to wait 40 minutes before your next 20 minute blast. This gives you 40 minutes to change suspension settings and refuel etc. Its great fun and alot cheaper than when clubs hire the track for ride days. No bookings or deposits needed. Just roll up on the day. Im out there myself most times practicing on my old 1980 model GSX1100 Historic racer. Click the link Ive supplied for practice dates and further info. http://www.mallala.com/practicedays.htm And by the way, the majority of riders out there are on road registered bikes, just having a good time. A leather jacket and pants and boots are required, but Draggin jeans are acceptable too. Mabe this Summer we could organise a group ride day together ? Food for thaught...
Cheers, Whitey

SEPTEMBER 8th Saturday is the last one on the list? I wish they would let two-up riders out I would go to all of them!!!!

It's less hassle than organising a trackday so we can do two-up riding.

I’ve been asking café racers club about it for long enough. I don’t see what the big deal is our PB is 1.19s FFS!!!

Hi Whitey96,

Thanks for the complements, yeh it's turn two. I do trackdays with my trusty wife on the back; she is a very very experienced pillion rider.

I find it easy to ride hard two up, more load on the rear tyre and you can get on the gas real hard because the bike is very stable and planted. We are only 4 seconds or so a lap slower two up than I am on my own. My PB is 1.14.30, two up we do PB 119's on a good day, that’s not bad for two up on a Daytona (off it’s face Daytona that is)……

Backing in the rear under hard braking into Southern loop is so easy to do once you get to grips with the weight difference. A very controllable slide under brakes whilst turning into the start of the corner is a great feeling and must look awesome

Braking: You can load up the front all the way into the corner. The extra weight on your arms and body are challenging though!!!

Corners: I’m pinned to the bike with limited movement; my wife hangs off for us instead.

The two pictures are of the same corner, 1st is me on my own and the 2nd is us two up. Note the angle of the bike is almost the same.

Pros: If we go we go together, we both get pleasure from the days riding.

Cons: Loss of acceleration, top heavy, mid corner transition takes longer to happen on real tight turns. Light front on hard exit of corner.

My bike is set up with Ohlins front and rear so it’s easy to set-up for two up riding.

Bottom line is if you get a good pillion passenger keep her!!! They are rare….

Geez. Your doing well there. Im surprised your not racing competition. 1.14s is a fantastic time to do. That would put you up the pointy end of alot of classes. Not just anyone can lap that fast mate. You do race dont you ? I see the cafe club sticker on your guard. I was with cafe racers for about 10 years in the 90s, when I was racing the old GP bike. I'll have to keep an eye out for you next practice day. Ive been to every one over the last 6 months, yet still havent sorted the suspension 100% !!! Suspension changes are alot of work on the old bikes like mine. All the fork adjustments are internal on the old bikes. Not just a click with a screwdriver like the modern ones. So tuning takes alot of work and effort. Twin shock rears arent the best things either, but we have no choice, because we have to use what was available in the era. Anyway... well done buddy. Your riding that thing brilliantly.

Hi Whitey,

I don’t race; I like to do trackdays to keep my hand in. Raced formula 500’s for years and I gave it up!!! I would spend all week getting it ready for the next race, that’s not cost effective when you’re self employed….. I still got the 10 lap record at Murrey Bridge

Unfortunately I don’t go to the Café Racers ride days because of the NO TWO-UP rule!!!! It shits me but that’s how it is for now. I do most of the Ducati ride days and the Coast ride days they allow us to go two-up. TRC will be a good trackday you should come; it will be a blast…. Thinking about taking my GoldStar out for a blast.
Olton Park in Pommie was the last time it thrashed on the track. I did give it some on the bay to Birdwood run once.

I should put my TZ350 ex Eddie Roberts TT bike back together.
(Can’t use it in period 5) That would be good fun around Mallers….

Your track bike looks cool are you using methanol? I watched Robbie Phylis race at the Superbikes round last year on a bike very much like yours, he was up there with the naked boys finishing 4th in one race if I’m not mistaken.

Heres a picture of my GoldStar and my old Formula 500.

Well I had a blast out there on the 8th. Unfortunatley no one else from the club showed up. Ah well... next time mabe. There were more bikes out there that practice day than I have ever seen before. The sessions were full with the medium group having atleast 40 bikes ! Unheard of before. The slow group had atleast 25 and the fast group around 15 or there abouts. I made sure I got out infront of the group first, otherwise it gets a bit dangerous trying to get past some people. The weather was perfect and I managed my fastest laptime so far on my old 1980 model air cooled GSX1100. Would have liked to seen Alfie and racecomp out there. Mabe next time ey ? What a hoot it is out there going like stink. And theres NO COPS and no trees and cars to hit either !

Yeh, I’m well pist off about not going out!!!! Worked all weekend.
I had a few mate out on the day. Gary on the Turbo Speed Triple with the OZ wheels, it's his second track day.... Loves it..

Big Andrew, he was on the ex Joe Rocket Honda and all the Ducati boys.

I here that a few came off on the day!!!

I'll be out on the 2nd of November for the TRC ride day. All are welcome AU$160.00 with lunch, rider training and two-up riding if you wish to try it out, it’s on a Friday and you must book in advance. Limited to a total of 40 riders on the day split into three of four groups so you will lots of quality time on the track. Nothing worse than traffic on the track when you’re trying to get some solid laps in.

40 riders in a group is bollocks, that’s taking the piss!!! Pay a bit more and have some good fun without looking out for what others around you are going to do!!!!!

Its never been like that out there before. I hope its never like that again. It was fine providing you get out pit lane first and you'll have the whole track free infront of you. Thats what I did and was able to get some good laps in without comming up on anyone. Alfie, you'd certainly be best to go out in the slow group first to learn the place. Its the hardest track in Australia for use of brakes. If your brakes work well at Mallala, you'll be fine for every other track in Oz. The slow group isnt all that slow, and they'll pop you up to the medium class if you look too fast for the slows. You'll love it mate. Im sure it wont be as crowded out there next time. Good to hear your sweet Slingshots all regoed and on the road now. Look forward to some club rides this summer.
