Gday guys

got the gixxer front on and finally modded the belly pan enough to get it to fit with the triple oil cooler that sits out in the middle of nowhere :D - think the front guard may need to drop a little but it's a pain in the ass to get sittin right due to the trumpy guard mounts being completely different to the suzi fork mounts n the holes not looking 'inline'when all the bolts are in but hey nothing major

Front guard definatly needs to come down. Looks like it's catching air on that angle.

Hey Watto, i just got a 97 triple the other day, im wondering where you got your radiator and oil cooler guards from, they look sweet!

Why not just use the gixer muddy m8?

Watto

G'day cavey

Didn't like the looks of the 03/04 gixxer thou guard - too square on the edges compared to the bulbous trumpy shape - I had the trumpy guard back on for a while but could seem to get it sitting right (always seemed too high over the wheel) so put an 05/06 gixxer guard on there now and the shape is def better

Like the tiga, saw those on ebay myself and was a little tempted.

You will need a short link pipe with a bend to get the angle right.

I will be very interested to see how yours turns out.[8D]

Watto

will do mate - i saw the one go on ebay for about $250-260 but bought one direct from Tyga for less than that - go figure the bay is not always the cheapest option

now there is where I'm a bit stumped

The external size at the back of the header is 52mm and the internal size of the can is 51mm

Inside the trumpy headers there is like a second lip (presumably to create a better seal/minimise exhaust leaks) - when I have the hindle link pipe off, the end that slides inside the header is 44mm internal and 46mm external as per the very top pic and is held in place by springs

looking for suggestions - do I take the can and flare it out to 52mm so it slides over the header end or do i get a 60-70mm long stub made that will fit inside the header and the can - that is one end 44mm and other 51mmm and slot it inside the can and the header so appears like nothings there in between the can and header - what's ya thought boys?

just need to be careful how I do it in case of being pinched by plod and I need to fit the original can to get it past the pits

20-07-2008, 01:35 PM
any half decent exhaust place could flare the tyga's end that much to fit over the original headers

either that or get that adaptor piece done up out of stainless and get it welded to the end of the tyga
can even put a bit of a bend in it to "kick" the can up a bit

if you look at my exhausts that "adaptor" bit is how i did it and u get that aggressive exhaust (although it isnt what everyones after i guess..)

Son of a bitch! I was eyeing off those turbo kits he was selling a while back. Still have to decide if I'm selling mine and buying another bike + project or making the S3 the project and just getting a motard to run around on. Decisions, decisions!

so do I mate although these were made back around 06/07 when OZ stopped production as they don't make the HL02's anymore - those 6 spokers that snapped are one of the new designs from when the factory recommenced last year - although I do have a set of Dymag lightweights as a backup

Lurch - that was my dilema - the speedy was my pride and joy so I started hacking up Suzi's then one day the missus asked instead of spending money on other bikes why not spend it on the triple - I never wanted to butcher it because to me it was spot on as it was

the benefit of one of RC's turbo kits was that it made the mods a bolt on proposition (well nearly) but if I wanted to, I could unbolt it and put back to stock with minimal fuss

Wait till the pics of RC's latest one pop up - pure porn with some amazing carbon work

Cheers Rod - not going be a killer by any means more of a sleeper - all the charge piping/joints/compressor housing etc will be done in black once sorted out so nice and stealthy

should come on boost around 1500 rpm and the torque should be unreal given its a triple :D - will be running bout 5-6 psi as not decompressed nor running an intercooler at this stage - hoping to get around 160hp out of her which is a big increase over stock with out sacrificing reliability (think they were around 100hp stock when they came out) - big thanks to Steve @ Racecomp for the carbon plenum & headers

been a big learning curve albeit a good one doing this mod so far

Watto
11-07-2011, 02:48 PM
cheers Scotty

think it will be a little while before I get her back to a running condition- hoping to get the pipe work finished this week and then start looking at the electrics and cooling side of things as may have some radiator clearance issues between turbo and front wheel to overcome - it's great the turbo sits so high so I can eliminate a separate oil scavenge pump but how we modded the compressor housing limits how far back I take the radiator

the plumbing wont stick out too far given where the radiator hose currently sits and certainly not so noticeable once its black and I relocate the horn

http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee479/triumph955/IMG_3599.jpg

http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee479/triumph955/IMG_3601.jpg

in case anyone is wondering why the big curve in the charge piping before going back into the frame, the top radiator hose feeds in btween along with a couple of other bits like turbo oil feed line etc

An extra 60hp is a big ask from 5-6psi and no intercooler.

Did you dyno it before any mods so you had a base setting?

That bend in the up pipe is the perfect place for a cooler:D

Watto
12-07-2011, 09:38 AM
no mate never been on the dyno - there's a few fellas that have run similar setup without any issues in this configuration - once boost goes over 6 psi could be a different story (I guess it depends on how long the rush lasts before I want more :D)

the plenum has a small cooling core inside it to work in this setup
