Ok ive spent the last few hours researching a route to Dubbo from SE/QLD here is what ive come up with. Feel free to add your opinions. We need to go by one of the quicker routes as its around 1000km in one day. Here is one way to go. Bris/Gold coast to Ballina, then across to Lismore, to Casino. Tenterfield would be next. Then off to Deepwater, then Glen Innes. Armidale is next, to Tamworth. To Gunadah. To Coonabaraban. To Dubbo.
Ok here is the milage breakdown.
Nerang to Ballina = 121km
Ballina to Lismore = 31km
Lismore to Casino = 32km
Casino to Tenterfield = 127km
Tenterfield to Deepwater = 52km
Deepwater to Glen Innes = 42km
Glen Innes to Armidale = 97km
Armidale to Tamworth = 112km
Tamworth to Gunnedah = 77km
Gunnedah to Coonabaraban = 106km
Coonabaraban to Dubbo = 143km and beer!
= 940km
With sensible fuel stops.
What do you think.

Cool mate... sounds like a plan.

Hopefully there will be not too many coppers... Does this route put us through that speed camera laiden mountain range along pacific hwy?

Cant wait for AFR...

I found out today if we go from Nerang to Bangalow then to Lismore/Casino we will save about 40km which will make it about the same distance as the 2nd option.

Looks like a Friday ride down for me.

Doc cant fix my arm so its a big bag of pain killers.
Not been on a bike much since it played up and Brissy to the
Gold Coast was an effort!!!

Fingers crossed its on the Naked-02 if its finished,
if not the Stock-04 bike's ready to go.
Either way its on a Bike or not at all.

Im hanging onto my licence by a thread so not sure if to
ride with a group or cruise down on my own. Will think
about it. Im a bit short of self control when I play with
others.

Will let you know what we decide.
...either way, to Dubbo on a bike is the only option.

Tony.J.

EDIT: Yeah, I used "whereis.com" and it came up with 921k's
from Brissy. Similar to yours.

A couple of variations that might be considered for the more corner orientated riders.

First leg, leave Nerang and get onto the Nerang-Murwillumbah Rd past the Natural Bridge then onto Uki, past Nimbin for suppleis then to Kyogle on the Murwillumbah-Kyogle Road.

from ther just run up the Summerland Way through Casino in to Grafton.

From Grafton head towards Nymboida, Ebor and then on to Armidale.

Another alternatve is Grafton to Glen Innes which is as nearly as fun, a bit more open but still some challenging cornering.

Either way you will be giggling like a School Girl with all the cornering action up that way. Could be slower but a lot of fun.

Couple of images around Nymboida

This is a shot of the roads in Jindy, Southern NSW, early December, hopefully they wont be this wet or icy.

If you have the good fortune of meeting 'Big Mick' 130kg of <s>hate</s> I mean Highway Patrol Man.... who works the Ballina, Lismore, Casino area, Ozkat give him my regards for safe passage.

Mick is one of the good guys.

Cheers Rich

Heres another list-
Brisbane
Warick
Inglewood
Texas
Inverell
Delungra
Bingara
Barraba
Manilla
Gunnadah
Coonabarabran
Dubbo
I dont know the total km's but it would simalar to the others. There are a few other shortcuts but if you take the wrong road :(. Its mostly open country(high speed) and not well policed aslong as you do the right thing in the towns, watch out for the wildlife and the trucks as the road is narrow and the grass on the edge is high in places.

Yeah no problem Jarrod, but what i was thinking was your closer to Warick than all of us maybe meeting us at Warick or Aratula may be better for you and some others travelling from Bris. But your welcome to stay here mate.

Are we taking the second option for route down there instead of going via ballina as per below:

The other option is ...
Nerang to Warwick =181km
Warwick to Inglewood = 109km
Inglewood to Goondiwindi =87km
Goondiwindi to Moree =142km
Moree to Narrabri =101km
Narrabri to Coonabarabran =120km
Coonabarabran to Gilgandra =95km
Gilgandra to Dubbo =66km
= 901km

We looked at the Nuell or however you spell it .. 868kms .. 9 hrs according to where is .. which usually seems to over estimate the trip times .. although a straight road I am told its the best way to go for fuel stops and places to eat ..am I wrong there ?

ozkat
26-03-2007, 07:55 PM
Either leaving Nerang at around 4am or meet at Warick Maccas at 6.00-6.30 Then Inglewood through the Texas route. Any ojections?

ej03
26-03-2007, 08:48 PM
Watch that road Oz it,s narrow in places and 62t of b double WILL have right of way[xx(]. From texas go to Bonshaw then Inverell all the other roads are rough.
