I dont suppose anyone has a bike crate in S/E QLD? ive sold my Katana to a bloke in WA and the cheapest way to get it there is to crate it up and send it as general freight.

Des, would a bike crate be about 2 pallet spaces?

suxukifreak

Yeap, Kay is a office manager at a warehouse that freights stuff around Aus, 2 pallets would be plenty.

If you can get a crate from Springwood suzuki, Kay is around the corner with fork lifts ready to load the bike if you can ride and crate it at her work.

That should be a piece of piss Oz, there's plenty of cosmetic damaged ones around (down here anyway) & it's a buyers market.
For 9K you should have some $$ left over for risers, bars & lights.
I think you're going backwards myself.

No sweat mate, happy to.
Look at Fowles & Pickles auctions websites or the Melb Trading post site.
I do a bit of P/T work for a M/C wreckers & we get ém offered to us here & there by guys who bin 'em at trackdays or they didn't have insurance but usually private guys have an unrealistic (for wrecking) price on ém.
I knocked back a BADLY grazed K1 thou with 7K on the clock 2 weeks ago, the bloke wanted $7500 & it was still registered. It had Fighter written all over it.

Turbokat, if you think you can get me a K1/K2/K3 or later for under 8k ( no frame or fork or wheel damage and good motor) ill leave it with you. will be about 2 weeks till im ready anyway. As long as i have enough bits to sell off to cover a cheap SF conversion ill be happy.

K1 or 2 should't be a problem Oz, I won't consider anything with frame damage, most of the (non frontend impact) damaged ones I've seen have tanks/clocks/subframes/tails trashed, bear in mind these bits can be exxy. Private sellers will be best 'coz they rarely put a claim in so nobody has to know the bike was ever damaged. In Vic, repairable writeoffs (usually from the auctions) have to have a Vehicle Identity Validation certificate, it might pay you to make some calls to make sure you'll be able to register it in the land of Queens.
PM me your No. & I'll let you know when something comes up.
Also worth considering is that there are a few higher Km (50ish) undamaged units about for around 10k +/-, for that $$ you'd have about $1500 worth of plastic/headlight/bracketry/etc to sell off & believe me, late model sportsbike cosmetics are in BIG demand.

With regards to Insurance Write-offs from auctions, like Turbokat said, these will be on a WOVR (Written Off Vehicle Register). In QLD, you have to get the bike fixed, get a Safety Cert and then send to Qld Inspection Services to have it taken off the WOVR. That inspection alone costs $330 - and you have to give them ALL receipts for your parts. They say the idea is to stop the stolen parts industry - but it sounds like another Government money grabbing exercise. The auctions have late model bikes that can sometimes go cheap - but it's common to see R1's, ZX10's and the like come through without instruments (the towies probably cut them off). These are expensive. See http://www.fowles.com.au/ Normally on the last Tuesday of the month.
The other option of getting a crashed bike that is not WOVR listed will definitely make it easier to register.
Anyway, I bought a cheap 2000 ZX9 at Fowles recently and will be going through this in the next month or so. I will let you know how it goes (hopefully smoothly)
