looking to place an order for my new custom sprocket from chaingang this week but im interested in a few things. i really dont give a fuck about legallity etc, just interested. So im either going to get a 57 58 or 60 tooth rear. Thing is though, i know its going to fuck up my gearing for the speedo, but im interested in how much, as in how will the ratio of 17:52 be effected in comparison to 17:58 if you get me, really i just want to know how much it will alter the speed. Also using this same ratio comparison equation, see how much the top speed is altered. only 2 more things, general feed back? the bike is a COMPLETE stunt fighter set up, crash cage, 12 bar, many mods from: barnett carbon kevlar clutch, ported/ polished head, full race exhaust, big jet kit, quad k&n filters and more.
Last of all WHAT COLOUR??

don't realy understand what you getting at with the ratios thing, the 3.05 ratio will give better top speed but slower acceleration and the 3.41 ratio will give better acceleration, for stunting we generally go bigger this gives as better acceleration to "get it up at a slow pace" it also has the small advantage of converting some of the HP into toque ( a short bar has less toque than a long bar) I run a 15/62 (4.133) on my gsxr1000 stuntbike, and use second gear like the standard first gear ( done the calculations and it is equivelent) so bascily the gear box is now one gear less ( using second as first now)
17:52=3.05
17:58=3.41
As for the speed reading there are programs which can tell you what percnetage out your reading is and for that matter you could proberley work it out with a pen and paper (but i'm not) i think stevo has such a program, if you ask nicely he might run some number through for you or you could just get someone with a accurate spedo and follow them and take note of the diference in speed

Just a thought is the speedo mechanical/ driven by the front wheel? or is it electronic and driven by pulses from the crank/front sprocket?
I only ask because if it is off the front wheel it shouldn't be affected. If it is an electronic one then a speedo healer can be used to correct the speedo reading. It's just that i have fitted a zx10r digital speedo onto my zx9r and will be changing the sprockets too and i will need a speedo healer to sort out the speed dislay.

Try this link for more info on the speedo healer.

As for the colour---- 'I see a red door and i want it painted BLACK'

Easy dRRew, it works on a percentage just divide 52 by 17 & you get 3.0588235,that means the front sprocket turns 3.0588235 times per every 1 revolution of the back wheel, so do the same with 58 & 17 & you get 3.4117647.
So if you divide 100 ( being 100% ) by 3.0588235 then multiply the answer by 3.4117647 you get 111.53846, that is 111.5% or 11.5 % lower than 17:52 gearing.
So at 100km/h your speedo should be reading 111.5 km/h & at 60km/h your speedo will be reading 66.9 km/h.
To work out how far out your speedo will be reading add 11.5% to the speed you want to know.
Cheers

Fuck, you're a smart bastard Ben! As for the black comments, Davo's "black" comment was so lame I had to do it as well. Although I would actually go black.........

paint it pink with purple polka dots. throw some yellow stripes in for good measure ;P

im, fairly sure the baby blade has a front wheel driven mechanical speedo. meaining if your changing sprockets.. it wont mean bugger all to the speedo

wow general consensus is black. nice i like black. aghhhhh right i get what you saying gixxer but i just didnt know how you got the 3. figures from the 17:52. EXBEN thanks heaps thats exactly how id seen it done before but just couldnt find the same info. thats awesome thank you.
Umm i think its a mechanical but run off the front sprocket, the 250 forum has informed me so.. But it doesnt matter if you use bens formula and get use to it. what size, i think 60 touches the swingarm

to get the ratios ie 3.05
sprockets are 17 and 52
so to get the final ration divide 52 by 17
52/17=3.05882etc

stop wasting your time with that scooter Drew, just buy a big block an paint that black,or matt black,or satin black and you wont have to worry about gearing deformaties.;)oh by the way...happy birthday.

True, so then keep going with what you got, looks like you can get that front up quite nicley, and with the bigger sprocket, and practice you will be able to do better wheelies, but altamitaly if you want to be seriouse about stunting you need someting bigger than that, be patent and keep your eye out at auctions etc you can pick up inexpencive bikes, i have gotten two 1 a VTR1000 for $800, and has cost me a totay of $2500 to finish ( this includes $800 for new set of cams) and the second was an 02 GSXR1000 for $800 which i am taking the motor out of but could of had running as a stunter for around the same at the cost of the VTR ( about $2500-$3000) keep up the parcitce on the 250 all the experience you can get counts and when you get somting bigger and better you can step up the type of tricks that you are doing. Good luck with the stunting ( remember that we all had to start somewhere ) and keep the shiny side up.

drew the secret to finding bargens such as these is to be paitent and keep looking all the time, we constantly looking at the auctions, also the bikes with canseled vin no's go cheeper (for ovious reasons) i got the VTR at the auctions (fowels) up here and the gixxer through a friend who knew about it i can keep an eye out for you up here and let you know if we find anything
what model 750 are you after.

Injected definatly way to go for stunting dont have those problems with flooding or leaning out the carbies.
