i am in the market for a new system for the 7/11w

the

i have spoken to a few people and am struggling to wade through the bullshit/advice.

originally i wanted a set of stainless steel headers get a link pipe made and then cut down a tri oval yoshi similar to the pic below.

I have been told that mild steel with a coating is the way to go because stainless will look good for a short time then turn a shitty color.

any ideas as to what looks good and will stay looking good?

what systems are you using and what was the fit/finish like?

go stainless if u can afford it

otherwise i hear good things about the nickelcoat stuff

the easiest thing would be to get the stock 1100 headers to save heaps of bends off ebay
cheap cans are all over US ebay most of the time, if its stainless normally u can just polish out the scratchs in an arvo ;)

And the trick is:----- get the inside of your stainless pipes ceramic coated. The ceramic lining acts as a barrier to the heat of the exhaust gases on the pipes. Basically, the pipes don't heat up as much and as such they don't dis-colour as easily. There's a Ducati rider here at work that has a set of Termi pipes ceramic lined and they look almost as good as when he first put them on in 2004. Just my 2 cents worth.

I'm with wazza...

if ya worried about heat discolouration then ceramic coat the insides of a SS set ... then ya got the best of both worlds...

Personally I like the wrapped header look myself ... but I'm old skool hotrod ;)

Hey Deano,
That thing's looking good, radial front end - mmmmm
Are those carbs Keihin FCRs?
For anything specialist exhaust wise, I use Ken at Megacycle in Dandy (Cheltenham Rd.) he's a good bloke, he likes custom/one off stuff, his fabrication & tig skills are right up there & his prices are sensible.
He also has a dyno!
A handy tip to avoid header discolouration is to jet your bike really rich so it runs cooler & doesn't heat up the pipes too much. ;)
Sure, your bike will run shithouse, but you won't hafta worry about blue pipes. :)

turbokat - got that photo from the watercooled thread in OSS

apparently they are stock 1100 headers with a custom made link pipe.

the downfall is that if i go to 1100 headers then i think i will have to change back to the 1100 sump and pick up.

the ceramic coating is a good idea i will look into that.

i spoke to ken at megacycle and he said that he cant do stainless as he dosn't have the stock.

he said that a full system would be about $950 in mild steel with one of there mufflers whereas a if i suppply a yoshi it would be $900.

can anyone tell me if the 1100 exhaust goes directly under the sump of off to one side like the 750 exhaust

this photo is of the currect setup.

That's cheating Deano, you got me all excitement with that pic, I thought it was yours. [V]
$900 for a set of headers from Ken is a bit steep, I had him make me a set for a Kat a few (maybe 5) years ago & it was only $450 which I thought was reasonable. He's obviously put his prices up since then.

Deano its an '87 1100 engine, and I bought the exhaust system less than a year ago. Demon tweeks were cheaper than having them made in oz(which kinda sucked ) and they also sell remus systems for early grxrs.

the only can they can give me for that system is a round one. may just end up getting headers and work out the rest from there.
