i have some spring steel in my shed that fell off the truck once when i brought it home oz . but its 12mm thick but if you have a file i will bring a piece up.

Gix the reason for the spring steel head gasket is it is much stronger than the standard head gasket, ive just bought some forged low compression over sized pistons and have had some rather trick rods for a while. this is the last part i need before i start getting things together.

oz - fill me in on how the spring steel is a benefit. i assume because it is so strong it wont blow out?

if it is that hard how will it compress and form, wouldn't you end up compressing and forming the top of the block and deck of the head to suit he ultra strong head gasket?

i thourght that the head gastet was a sort of sacraficial part?

we sell shim steel in different thicknesses but not spring steel.

[^]indeed spring steel would be a bad call , a soft copper is much better an ezeir to work for head gaskets[made plenty]:D

a agree, spring steel is far too hard to be used as a head gasket..

id be using, 2 -4 layers (depends on how thick you'd want the gasket) of 0.55mm stainless steel, spot welded in certain places.
you may not even need to spot weld them together, just an idea to keep them all together tis all.

the au ford falcon runs head gaskets this way.

and with me being a laser engineer, i can scan and then cut a couple layers for the head gasket on the laser for you ;)

spring steel gaskets stop the head gasket blowing out under very high compression. they are not just a spring steel gasket, if it was it would never seal properly. the spring steel is coated with a .001" thick of viton rubber. i dont know much about this viton rubber but 99% of all super high performance internal combustion engines have used this in the past few years. ie: top fuel drag cars and bikes, high performance piston driven aircraft etc. ive just ordered mine and for the 1127/1216 engine cost me $120. pretty cheap insurance i think.
