View Full Version : Finally started the strip down - Chalky's GPZ900R

05-09-2005, 04:18 PM
How's it going girls? ;)

Started stripping down the GPz at last.

Got a set of drag bars and A Sigma BC800 speedo yesterday, so pulled the plastic off the bike today. [8D]

Went out and scored a large, 12 mm thick piece of ally this afternoon, plus another GPz top triple clamp from a friendly wrecker to model off. On Wednesday I'm off to the machinists to make up a riser plate which will completely cover the existing triple clamp, plus a set of multi-position risers. :D

Have got the electronics organised, so will be making up replacement fuel and water temp guages this week. Am thinking of embedding the guages and idiot lights into the riser plate. So will get 2 plates made up and hollow out the bottom one to hold the electonics bits. Will look like a 1 inch thick riser plate. [:p]

Next week I'm picking up a replacement rear frame section to start the work on that. :)

Can anyone tell me what the width/length of an EF seat is?
And where to get bar-end indicators?

Will post pics as work gets done, and once my daughter brings the camera back from the bitch'n dragon's place.

Thanks Fimp, good work.

I actually picked up a set of MCS bar-end mirrors, which only require a minor adaptor and 'normal/micro' indicators mount straight up to them. I've got micro 'arrow' indicators on there already.
The bolts on the mirror mounts and the indicator mounts are the same size/pitch etc, I had the original mirror bolt drilled out, head cut off it, and a threaded collet made up which joins the two bolts (after shortening the indicator bolt) and voila the two mate together like a bought one.

Still got to figure out the headlight bit though.

OK, here the Geepz has gone from Amanda Vanstone to Twiggy

http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/PIC_00411.JPG

And here we're starting to add some "tit's and ass" to it.[8D]

The headlight/dash/bracket are to be replaced this week, then it's back on road for some fun.

Anyone know where to get jack-up kits from locally?

By local, do you mean Aus or Canberra?

The jack-up kits would have to be Aus, CBR wouldn't have anything. Are the dogbones shortened to raise the height? If so can the existing ones be cut and shut? or wouldn't it be strong enough?

Also I can only get 27" wide bars in CBR, so if anyone knows where to get 30"+ wide bars, but they need to be standard "water pipe" bars in order to fit the mirrors/indicators.

I had 2 new hollow bolts made up, to replace the bolts that came with the mirrors, no heads on them, and they are the same thread size as the indicators. I got a coupls of 2 cm long nuts and joined them all up.

I'll post a pick of them apart and assembled tomorrow.

If I run the mirrors under the bars I have to turn my head to see them, whereas I don't as they are, they also reduce the likelihood of some prat walking past and knocking the indicators.

Chalky. Go to the parts page of this website and check out TEAM DAYV-BOY. He does lift kits as far as I remember.

Photo's of the indicator arrangement. The top one shows the mirror at top, the new hollow bolt in the middle (with 2cm wide nut attached) which replaces the large bolt for the mirrors. At the bottom is the indicator.
The below shot shows the indicator mounted into the handlebars
