So this is what happens when you let a bike go under a parked semi.
completely stuffed the top fairings, side fill panels, dented the top of the tank, cracked all the instruments. Here is a chance to build my first streetfighter. it was real cheap anyway. cost me a VRS set for a camry and the labour to do the job incl timing belt ( about 4hrs)

Yep, fucked up a wheelie. was going to post some new pics of the rebuild but suck at photo work. need to reduce the size of the pics first without losing too much clarity.

Couldn't pick it, very similar to an 88 CBR600 in bits in my shed.
Christ it's hard to get parts for, not many sold aparently.
Heaps of 1000s round though.

The owner got this brace sent out from Metmachex to his dimensions(they cut it in half for him to save on postage cost) got a second 'arm off a wrecker & got the brace welded on & voila!
Instant trick swinger [:p]
It's got a lot of little tricky bits on it this, & it all makes up for a cool mid size 'Fighter I reckon - maybe even a challenger for the all time Middleweight Champion - the SV 650 [:0]

I was thinking about doing something like that with my swinger Turbo. Anyone in Aus you know does that sort of thing?

Msaybe Fimp or ZX could do up the plans with their trick engineering software? :)

grind off this bit and them grind back a little on the pivot mount on the arm. not as neat as Bens mill but all I can afford.

saw one of the other posts about shorty cans.
Heres my entry. 220mm end to end with original honda part number still on it. pop riveted sheet of alloy to outside to cover up some gravel rash. nice new note, quiet at idle but.breathes heaps better, no packing just three inner tubes all offset internally. dont know about performance gains / losses but the bike seems to pick up a lot better.

im out about 3mm left of centre with the tyre and chain. I can get the arm machined a bit but have to sink the bearings and circlip. Thats the next step just gotta save cash for it.

Fuck shit damn poo bugger an all that.
My machinist just let me down. Don't blame him really he just picked up 20k worth of work plus ongoing manufacture of parts, just wish he'd told me sooner.
Now how to machine down a swingarm and not pay for it?
Are grinders bad? How about a reamer. Time I've got money I dont.

one fark up after another.
"new throttle cable" lengthened just snapped off at the throttle tube end, both switch blocks are loose on the bars, water pipe to side of block snapped through to inside of pipe, radiator screen screws siezed and ripped off the tabs and I cant reweld / solder them on, no fucking idea what Im doing with rear shocks yet. How long until the ride??
Fuck it time for beer and sleep before I put a fucking hammer to it!
RANT over (for now)

ill come help ya phill switch blocks we can remedy[ i have heaps of tube],cable i probably got a fix for silver solder is amazing stuff,rad screen ..some of that boy racer grill stuff from repco, then we ll rip into sorry ....carefully remove the excess material from ur swing arm ...it says here:}
and u can weld me shock mounts again whey all sorted

after doing a set of steer kingpins on a truck i thought about using the reamer to "adjust" the depth of the bearings so i could remove a bit of material from the rhs of the swing arm to make it all line up.

I took off two bits 5mm thick plus a blade thickness, about 1mm so all up about 12mm

This is what I ended up with!!
bearings are a nice tight press fit, made up a spacer to stop them shifting cause I cant recut a circlip ring and away I go.

Final fit is great, in centre but the chain is 3mm out. down to local machine shop to take that off the carrier and its all sweet. even the shock wont be a hassle now. reuse the old cbr unit, make some spacers to replace the old cbr dogbone link and sorted!!

Next question is, how much can you cut off the rear before its not legal?
If i cut the seat in half to where there is a stepped section on the dual set down to a single seater, the location of the ducktail in the pic is where it would sit. I can cut and shut the rear sub no probs but what do you think?

To keep the coppers happy you need the tyre to be covered to the 3 o'clock position or 45 degrees point up and away from the bike... Mine ain't legal so I'm going to do something similar to blade rod and make a narrow tyre hugger that extends to that position...

HMMM. no matter how creative, frustrated, drunk I got I couldnt work out how to make these bottom linkages to line up.
I tried the original cbr shock which has a bigger spring diameter but shorter overall length, the vfr shock which is smaller o.d. but longer, a combination of links, some new ones some carboard cutouts, all sorts of shit to no avail.

Then one of the drivers here suggested moving the top mount up. now this will work out better BUT.
I have to pull the airbox out, which means pull the motor back out!. I guess that means filter pods too.
Yee hah NOT. there isn't enough room to move the top mount out to clear the airbox and It really seems the best way to do it.It also means I may be driving to AFR. Fuck it!
Any one lend me a set of 4 pods with 48mm intake pipes?
OH well i guess if im gonna do it I'll do it right even if it means I dont ride it soon.

Have you looked at the links from a GPz900R?

They are shaped to go around the outside of the shock.

Ah phil if the air box is coming out and staying out just cut it up in there
until you can get it out that way you dont have to drop the donk ive used this
method before on an old gixer i had worked a treat.
And saves heaps of time to.

Yeah Sharky, i made up a set from light tin plate as a trial. still no go as the swing arm mount is too low to fit the link to the shock on.
Damo, I thought about it but may be able to recoup some of my money selling off the bits I'll never use again on Ebay. You never know someone may want it?
Its not really a problem to drop the engone now as I cant afford pods for it anyway just yet so I've pretty much resigned meself to driving out and taking my time on the mods and not fucking it up.
Besides, now I can paint the motor and shine up the ali bits and paint some bolts heads and shit instead of rattle can flat black!!!

Fucken YEAH HAAA, the air box comes out without rippin the motor out!!!. rip out the glued it air intakes on the side and inlet tubes for the carby, a "gentle" belt with a hammer and Im away.
Now whos got some pod filters theyre not using? Intake throats are 55mm and filters need to be tapered to fit under the tank. Anyone got some or where to get them?

new top mount and modified chassis crossmember to suit new vfr shock. had to cut a curve into the crossmember where the old mount was to allow the shock to move a bit. welded in a new top mount and reinforced the top bolt hole. Going to weld some plates into the gap between the top rail and the main rail as reinforcement to stop them spreading.

The shorter can was the original idea but I'll need to remake the exhaust completely. was going to do smoething like Stu's but ran out of ideas and enthusiasm when I was doing it. Am thinking now about fitting a cbr 1000 rr tail and underseat exhaust when I get one at a good rate, Free Is the Idea.(Tell me im dreaming!)

Huey, there is NO way back now to a standard swinger, I think I've modded the frame enough? the SSSA has to stay now. Besides it was a bit of a bitch to get this far!LOL

I took it for a ride before I dyno'ed it. felt good and cornered far better than i'd expected. After the dyno run I thought i had better not ride it so hard and gently putted back to the shed and work on the fuel settings.

just a wee bit of explaination i think,... the reason why we dont do our own brake lines is two fold
1} the RTA wont let us get licenced unless we re motor vehicle techs [yet we work on trucks air brakes all the time }? beats me
and 2} we used to do them.. had all the dies and fittings but as usual some people got greedy and fucked it up for everybody

shock links are the original VFR jobbies ( the triangular plates) and the link from them to chassis is the original cbr with the side plates moved inwards to the same width as the arm mounts.

I running bolt togethers on the front of the blade now no dramas;)

And Ben i am coming to see you real soon.
The rear calipure i got dont fit the orig braket i got from
honda.

And ive checked it against 06 VFR800 and a 97 VFR750 but its different to both and its not the same as the fronts either:(

Its becoming a real headfuck im thinking i may have to fabricate a braket or it may just be easyier to use the Blade calipure[V]and make that fit.

What do you recon?????in your expert opinion???[:p]

last trip to the dyno today, 100 hp and air /fuel sorted, goes well ( for an oldie).
paid the 12mths rent today, cost me more than the repairs etc in the first place!
first ride impressions are ok, bitest ride will be the AFR.

Angle's pretty good.

How do you propose to fill the gap between tank, frame and tail?

Do you have a pillion seat to go on or are you using the cowl?

If you have the rear cowl, what if you lift the front of the tail section up to the tank and leave the tip of the tail at the same height as it is now. Someone might be able to do a photo shop for you.

The gaps between the tank and frame will be filled in with plate welded onto the tank and moulded to suit the original curves of the tank. the bits between the seat and tank will be mesh eventually.
If i lift the front of the tail piece it uncovers the frame so i want to leave it there.
I will keep the pillion seat on it (ocasionally i convince the missus into going for a ride)and get a cover too.

stripped the new s/hand engine to replace cam chain and tensioner cause these engines are notorious for rattles and found sump full of sand and rocks, not a good start.

todays effort, pull the seat and tank back off after just having a look and put it all together.
Wiring harness, radiator & water, oil cooler, filter and oil, exhaust, carbys & filters, bit of fuel in a tube and bugger me it runs!!!

probably? i just degreased it, give it a hot wash and painted straight over it all! probably wont last too long but this build will be changed again soon, i've no doubt.
