Ok so heres the story, the Bitza's gone so I need a bike to ride to the 2007 AFR. The TL has been sitting in boxes in the corner for too long, It's time to get this thing together.
I've got about 7 weeks to do.........well...........EVERYTHING![:0]
Some stuff on the list is,
1. Get bits anodized/powdercoated
2. Fit the single sider setup (this should be fun )
3. Decide on, buy/build a seat unit
4. Assemble the rolling chassis
5. Mount the headlight
6. Rewire the bike to suit all the new goodies
7. Paint the bike
8. Get it registered
9. Tune it & Run it in.
10. Do it all in between doing real (Paying) jobs..................
.................................Oh shit[:0]
This is what it looks like today...Gulp....

Fark BEN you gotta build that as well as paying jobs all in 7 weeks.
no sleep for you then good luck.

To all you others have a cracking AFR it will be next year for me :D

just sold a Zx6 thermo unit,$65...pays to reply to emails sometimes.Ever concidered anodised powdercoat Ben?costs a bit more, but available in satin, matt, gloss and pearl finish. Also some wild hybrid clear coats if your coater is any guru.
As if it wont be ready for AFR07,should only take 90 minutes to re-assemble.Unfortunately it will be always missing 2 cylinders.

ZX6 rad is not suitable. Anodised powdercoat?? Is this like a candy powdercoat? Yes it's missing 2 cyls but methinks the bigger disadvantage is the S word on the tank :D

SEVEN WEEKS........

Orange County Choppers built one of their Massey Fergusons from scratch in three weeks.

With an unlimited budget........

and an unlimited workforce......

and a multi million dollar workshop.......

and with parts that mostly came from a catalogue, and click together like lego.....

and they had someone else paint/powdercoat it........

Yeah you should have a ball mate!! JEEESSSSUUUUSSSSS........!!

Seven weeks and i bet the bloody thing will still steal the show at the AFR.

Let me know if you need someone to bolt the rotors on, or order pizza, or mop your brow.

The plan is to have it back on the road for the Fools Run.
It not 100% what I wanted, so after the fools run
im going to look at new rear bodywork, swingarm,
header tank, exhaust etc and some horsepower gains ;)

Cant wait to get back to the UK in a few months time,

I made some progress with the swingarm today.
This is what I started with. 273mm wide at the pivot on the arm that needed to be taken down to 252mm to fit into the frame.

regulator / rectifier unit? it regulates the voltage and turns ac into dc for the bikes electrical system i believe

Looks like a rec/reg to me. The get abit warm, but I don't think you need to give them lots of airflow or anything, they are usually mounted under seat, or under a sidecover.

great work exben! that thing is looking good. You have any fun welding to that cast aluminum? you never know sometimes when you'll hit a pocket or some silica deposit. When you machined the arm down to fit your frame did you leave room for thrust bearings or is it right up against the frame?

and yes the black box is a reg/rectifier. and yes it does need some air flow but since its mounted to a big aluminum plate that sees tons of airflow i imagine it will sink most of its heat that way and not to worry. Typically if your battery is at full charge and your not using all the power your creating. Once your battery is at full charge the excess needs to be lost somewhere in the form of heat, partially through the reg/rec. since aluminum dissipates heat faster then steel it will naturally radiate that way.

EXBEN

Do you have to particularly worry about shielding in your wiring?

I want to cut and shut the wires on mine but a mate from uni who worked on the QUT race car is warning me about interference from other circuits.

I gotta do something about my wires tho - it looks like a dog turd hanging above the radiator.

some wires you might worry like pickups or tach signal. nothing else really is going to carry a frequency.

The only sheilding I really worry bout is heat sheilding if any of the loom passes close to exhausts etc. Take a look at a standard loom ,everythings wrapped together. I like to wrap everything in that split black conduit cause it keeps it all neat & is easier to access the wiring if you want to do mods.:)
